Abstract

The integration of Haitians into Brazilian society, particularly in the city of
Sorocaba, constitutes a complex and dynamic sociocultural phenomenon. This study
deepens the understanding of the cultural adaptation processes experienced by these
immigrants, analyzing the challenges they face, their social integration strategies, and the
impact of their presence on the local community. BAENINGER, Rosana; PERES,
Roberta. Migration in times of crisis: Haitian migration to Brazil (2017). Revista
Brasileira de Estudos de População (Brazilian Journal of Population Studies), states that
the Haitian presence in Brazil exemplifies a broader characteristic of "crisis migration,"
in which people leave their countries due to severe economic, political, or social crises.
This type of migration highlights the complexity of the social field of migration, as it
involves not only the search for better living conditions but also the confrontation of
several challenges, such as cultural adaptation, access to rights, and integration into the
labor market. Brazil is a country built upon the heterogeneity of social processes; this
diversity represents a cultural richness of high value for the construction of national
identity. In this context, it is essential to reinforce the positive impact that migration has
on societies. Sustainable development can help advance key areas of the United Nations
Common Agenda, supporting the role of human mobility as a common good. In a matter
of days, it becomes clear that more and more people are being forced to move due to the
impacts of climate change. The analysis focuses on essential dimensions such as access
to the labor market, education, healthcare, housing, and participation in social networks.
This study contributes to advancing knowledge about Haitian immigration in Brazil,
offering insights for the formulation of more effective public policies and for promoting
a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all citizens.
